"The leftist reporters were playing the poor gang members' game, neglecting the idea that all of these guns so bravely taken away from gangsters can no longer harm the children up in the Jane-Finch area and across the city. Some pulled out the tired race card trying to garner some sympathy for the gangs. They get none from me. And I know they get none from most of you, too." j. warmington
These guns for hire
The guns -- some available for rent -- are off the street but you'd never know it
By JOE WARMINGTONIt looked like it could kill you just sitting there on the table.
Thanks to the cops it will kill no more.
There is no way to say how many lives will be saved now that it has been seized. And there is no way to say how many lives it has already taken.
It was chilling looking at it. There were actually about three dozen guns displayed on a table at police headquarters yesterday. They were found during Project Kryptic along with almost 100 people alleged to belong to the Crips gang.
Every one of the guns was intimidating to look at, but this thing stuck out like a sore thumb.
Made by Corbray, out of North Dakota, it looked vicious.
'NO PURPOSE'
"It's the Mac-11," says Det.-Const. Mike Moore, a 32-year veteran of Toronto Police who is with the guns and gangs task force.
He knows his guns.
"There is no purpose for it other than to shoot people." In other words, says Moore, it's a killing machine.
"Just as fast you can pull the trigger it shoots," said Moore. "It's a semi-automatic submachine gun with a 30-round-magazine. It's one of those weapons that sprays out everywhere."
And yet for the first 10 minutes of the news conference yesterday the media seemed focused elsewhere. It was shocking. It was like there was an agenda to spin this somehow against the police when it was the police's day.
