Two things; school board trustees, especially those in large urban centers, tend not to be good money managers and this is evident thanks to the actions of the Catholic school board regarding expense accounts, the Toronto board considering spending $50k, illegally to advertise their position, etc. Secondly; schools get their operating $$$ from various levels of government. These various levels of government get those $$$ from you and I and we work 6 months just to contribute to that pool. If schools board don't have to pay GST then that pool gets smaller and the government has two choices; raise taxes and/or cut back in other areas.

It's not that making public schools GST-exempt, as Toronto District School Board trustee Bruce Davis has long wanted to do, is a bad thing.
