Giving voters the right to fire city politicians on the spot rather than waiting for election day may seem like an attractive idea, especially in light of some previous Toronto office-holders. But it is an idea that is more likely to produce chaos....and the writer doesn't consider what occurs at Toronto Silly Hall on a daily basis CHOAS?

Mayoral candidate George Smitherman hit the roof of a private school Tuesday to announce his green energy program for Toronto.
Why would a mayoral race in Toronto, heavy populated with mediocre candidates, be of the slightest interest to the good people of Greater Canada?
The obvious answer would seem to be, it isn’t. But there is something about the desultory municipal contest unfolding in Canada’s biggest city that suggests implications are afoot.
The Toronto Star commissioned a poll, released on the weekend, that once against suggests the little-loved Rob Ford is leading what has become (even if only preliminarily) a two-person race. The newspapers keep doing new polls, even though everyone insists the real race doesn’t start until Labour Day, because they can’t bring themselves to believe Ford is really winning.
