Got You Again Jack!
Soon-to-be-Leader of the Opposition Jack Layton met the media at a downtown Toronto hotel on Tuesday, hours after ushering his party to a stunning 102-seat performance in Monday’s election.
Caveats abound: a bevy of pea-green MPs from Quebec, including *three McGill University students and *one Ruth Ellen Brosseau, who spent much of the campaign in Las Vegas and can’t speak French very well; the expectations of huge numbers of Quebec soft-nationalists who may not have “opted in” to Canada to quite the extent certain media outlets insist, and whose conceptions of the NDP may clash noisily against the party’s traditional base; the fact he’ll have less clout in the 41st (majority) Parliament than he did in the 40th (minority) Parliament, and that a majority is now held by the dreaded Stephen Harper. But Mr. Layton wasn’t interested.
