Chris Selley’s Full Pundit: Endorsement Watch 2011 — darn that liberal media!

The editorial board endorsements are in, for whatever they’re worth. A survey of the top 25 or so newspapers by circulation found 13 firm declarations of preference — 12 of them for the Conservatives, and one for … well, it’s a fun surprise. A brief summary of each, listed roughly from west to east, is below.

For the Conservatives:
Vancouver Sun (majority)

Why: Tories have a “steady hand on the economy”; have eschewed “’soft power’ dogma of the Liberals” in favour of “a leading role on the international stage”; have “re-established a close relationship with the U.S.” Mostly, however, because change, as we all know, is bad. Majority for “stability” and to thwart coalition ambitions.

What’s wrong with the other guys: NDP is a fiscal nightmare. Michael Ignatieff has “run a poor campaign” — jeez, really? — and “has failed to demonstrate the leadership Canada needs to navigate the turmoil that surrounds us.”

Reservations: Conservatives’ ignorant stance on maternal health in developing countries; useless “tough on crime” policies; the whole openness and accountability thing.

2008 endorsement: Conservative majority
