Attawapiskat: ‘It hasn’t changed in decades ... I don’t think it ever will’
By Raveena Aulakh
This isolated Cree reserve is unsustainable in the long run— yet the people here love their wilderness home deeply.
I think we have to commend Rosie and those who hold the same views and I guess that they expect you and I to feel guilt and spend the resources to drain the cesspool on an annual basis rather than move to a new area. Rosie doesn't realize that many, many of us non Indians move to a new location when conditions in our present location doesn't meet our satisfaction and believe it or not WE pay for that right.
Rosie Koostachin has raised children and grandchildren in Attawapiskat, almost left the reserve once when times were bleak. But she stayed, citing her love for her wilderness home.

The award for the worst politician of 2012 goes to …
Rex Murphy:
If we look for an unresponsive government that has — at times — mocked or ignored citizens’ most basic rights, let me nominate Dalton McGuinty
I second the nomination but suggest that those who voted for him three times need to be held up for disdain. Also seeing there is no statute of limitations on stupidity many of his ministers should be held to account; Smitherman would head the list.

Line Snaps In Fight For Fairness, Christie Blatchford, Dec. 21.
Christie Blatchford may not agree with the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Canada to dismiss the appeal of non-native fishermen convicted of offences for participating in a protest fishery to challenge native fishing rights. But that is no reason to state that the rule of law has been tossed under the bus. The protesters had their day in court, a decision was made, and their convictions were upheld. Disagreement with the law is not the same as a failure of the law. Ms. Blatchford has missed the bus in her assessment of the function and purpose of the Canadian judicial system.
Jesse McCormick, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Vancouver.
Jesse might want to champion her/his position with the Indians who on a regular basis break the law with boycotts, blockades, etc. and a prime example was the Caledon debacle. I think it is Jessie who missed the bus...

Christmas Greetings from Canada's Occupied Left Coast
There's an old Chinese proverb that has an extra special significance at this time of the year: "If there's food on the table then the family will have many problems to discuss. If there's no food on the table then there's only one problem."
As a special mention to my fellow SDA'ers, while we constantly gripe about politicians and taxes and the NHL strike (and rightfully so), do take a moment to look at the world as a whole and realize that most of us are so incredibly blessed to be living at this time in history. Do keep on working hard - for yourself, your family, and your country - but also pause this Christmas to take stock of the many blessings you have!

Must not be frank about Canadian Indians
Indigenous Canadians are heavily welfare-dependent but mentioning that in plain English is a no-no
One of the biggest news stories in Manitoba this week was that of now former Conservative youth-wing president Braydon Mazurkiewich.
Last Friday, Mazurkiewich wrote a Twitter and Facebook post saying that a planned urban First Nations reserve on a former military base was designed for "hard-working men and women of the military, not free-loading Indians."
Mazurkiewich resigned his post almost immediately and offered a somewhat veiled apology. Manitoba Tory leader Brian Pallister finally spoke out against the comments on Thursday, but rejected a call from aboriginal leaders to apologize on behalf of the party.

Lawfare: Canadian Muslims planning to shut down my husband’s blog
By Kathy Shaidle on Sunday, December 23rd, 2012 | 1 Comment
As we’ve known for some time, Canadian Muslims have been putting together a lawfare case designed to silence my husband’s blog, BlazingCatFur.
Now they’ve admitted this online at a Khomenist site, asking for donations to support The Man Who Is Suing Us in separate actions related to Canada’s Human Rights Commissions.
They specifically say they are targeting my husband because he is a “Zionist.”
(Note too that they spout the usual stuff about just wanting to be good Canadians in multicultural, inter-faith-dialogue Canada — while planning to destroy anyone who dares to criticize them.)
As many of you know, my husband’s investigations uncovered the sex-segregated mosqueteria in a Toronto public school and helped halt government funding to radical Palestine House, to name only two stories he broke which were later picked up by the mainstream media (usually without credit, with Sun News being the lone exception.)
His videotapes of Muslims calling for “another Holocaust” and so forth have been seen by tens of thousands.
Just yesterday, he posted this speech by a Toronto area Muslim schoolgirl, praising the Ayatollah Khomeini and the banned-in-Canada terrorist group Hezbollah. She calls for the defeat of the “Zionist Regime.”
And just last night, outside Justin Trudeau’s address to thousands of “moderate” Muslims in Toronto, Arnie caught this fellow praising Hamas, named on the federal government’s list of banned terrorist groups:
It is no wonder Canada’s radical Muslim population, which is increasingly bold and belligerent, now wants to silence him.

What did Justin Trudeau say at last night’s Muslim event?

The Jewish Tribune sent a reporter:

Although the audience cheered and applauded when Trudeau criticized “the politics of division and fear,” they did not respond in kind to his comment about supporting gay marriage and women’s rights.
Some of the seating at the conference was segregated by gender. A woman named Mona Sharkawy complained on Twitter that she and her husband were ejected from the conference because they had sat in the men’s section. She wrote that they had only done so after discovering there were no seats available in the family section. In one of her Tweets, she said of Trudeau, “Wonder if he knows what he is supporting?!”

Be The First To Bring These Up At Timmies...
Why Do I Not Applaud Her?
Possibly because she gives Christianity second class status. I will, and do, respect the traditions of our diverse and divisive society but I will continue to wish people Merry Christmas, decorate and display Christmas trees in public buildings (btw other faiths can petition to have their symbols displayed), approach seeing manger displays, etc. etc.
‘Political correctness is diluting Christmas’: Sikh MP
National Post Staff | Dec 20, 2012
Postmedia News FilesConservative MP Nina Grewal
“Political correctness is diluting Christmas in a well-intentioned but [unnecessary] attempt to be inclusive.
How can we as a society join together to celebrate Diwali, the Chinese New Year, Hanukkah and Vaisakhi but at the same time rob Christians of the true meaning of Christmas? As a Sikh, I am not offended when Christians celebrate Christmas in a traditional way. Rather, I am pleased to celebrate with my Christian friends.
True diversity means respecting the traditions of all Canadians, including those of the Christian majority.
Please join with me in wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas.”
Christams is a good season for appreciating our common Christian tradition
Humanity has been improved by the widespread belief that God created man, and that the real deity takes an active interest in human affairs.
A Question...
It wasn’t as exciting as some years, but the best architecture of 2012 was distinguished by its extreme urbanity.
...how many people waiting for affordable housing or homeless transitional housing benefit from Hume's choices. There is no question that there is a fiscal benefit and a "cultural" boost and the $$$ do provide a benefit for the socially deprived but it doesn't keep them warm or dry.

Broadcast council slams Ford radio show for ‘abusive’ comments (0)
What in the world is a "Broadcast Council?" If there was only one source of "news" they might serve a purpose but in our "Freedom Of The Press" environment individuals will decide what is abusive by not buying or listening to sources they find abusive.
