...but it seems much of the problem seem to stem from tree branches breaking and damaging power lines. IMHO this sends a message: upgrades to our city forestry services.
The extreme left-wing Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives or CCPA, where the “alternative” they allude to is socialism, even though they’re too chicken to admit it, has suggested that the federal government expand the failing state-owned Canada Post, and get it right into the financial services sector. I’m still waiting for them to break into […]

Phil Robertson, star of Duck Dynasty. (A&E handout)
Network chiefs behind U.S. reality show Duck Dynasty have decided to reinstate family patriarch Phil Robertson, days after he was suspended for making controversial remarks about homosexuality in a magazine article. Robertson, who helps to run a multi-million dollar family duck hunting business, hit headlines last week after he was asked by a GQ reporter to describe sin, to which he replied, "Start with homosexual behaviour and just morph out from there."
The point here isn't to make any moral statement about segregation in general or SA's version in particular. It is, rather, this: regardless of the extent to which white South Africans were inhuman -- as all peoples can sometimes be -- they did nothing unhuman. Their social policies were exactly what could be expected from any group of humans in their situation. If any question this, try a thought exercise. Imagine there was an African tribe that had a long history in a land, had turned that land into a nation, brought it into modernity and created its democracy, and had reason to believe that sharing power would lead to its own persecution. Would it surprise anyone if they took measures to ensure their safety, cultural integrity, and hold on power? But we don't have to theorize. There's no shortage of African countries where one tribe dominated government -- such as with the Hutus and Tutsis in Rwanda -- and tribes have often spilled blood vying for power. One difference, though, is that the dominant group usually doesn't rule democratically but autocratically; another is that they're generally far more brutal than SA's apartheid government. And there's a third difference: whatever the persecutions, oh-so humanitarian Western moderns generally pay these countries little mind. So it's hard to escape the conclusion that the real problem the West had with SA was that the ruling tribe happened to be the wrong color.
Must not mention that AIDS is running riot among South African blacks (but not whites) A PR executive for major media company IAC who tweeted a racist 'joke' on Friday that sparked a social media revolt has been fired from her position following the incident.
Justine Sacco - the now-former Communications Director for IAC, a company owned by Barry Diller - was about to board a 12-hour flight from London to Cape Town when she Tweeted: 'Going to Africa. Hope I don't get AIDS. Just Kidding. I'm White!'
The post had been retweeted over 3,000 times and was picked up by media outlets around the world, however Sacco remained completely unaware of it all because she was in the air.
A spokeswoman for the company has now confirmed Sacco has indeed been sacked.
'There is no excuse for the hateful statements that have been made and we condemn them unequivocally,' a rep told The Daily Beast. 'The offensive comment does not reflect the views and values of IAC.

The Assembly of First Nations has made a sensible proposal to the federal government, and it should be considered
1. First Nations control of education where is the proof that they have a record of success
2. Assurance of stable and adequate funding start with re-allocation of $$$ given to band chiefs/councils and taxing of cigarettes, etc. manufactured/sold on reserves
3. Recognition of the importance of First Nations language and culture as determined by Iroquois Warriors?
4. “Jointly determined” oversight of First Nations education rather than unilateral federal oversight wishful thinking and the state of education outside first nations is not a model I want
5. Ongoing meaningful engagement between First Nations and Ottawa on education matters. less discussion more action and concessions on both sides.
