Wal-Mart baby trial to begin in Saskatchewan

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. -- The lawyer for a Saskatchewan woman accused of abandoning her newborn in a toilet in a Wal-Mart says she is anxious to begin her trial today.Ajay Krishan says the woman is ready to tell her side of the story.April Dawn Halkett has pleaded not guilty to one count of child abandonment.She allegedly gave birth in the washroom of the department store in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in May 2007.A shopper alerted staff, who found a baby boy head-first in a toilet and performed C-P-R until paramedics arrived. The child survived.Halkett contacted police within days.
