No tests. No homework. No classics.
Audio essays, without the written word. Self designed courses of study.
This apparently is the new education. Comic books in the library. A 10 rather than 9am start to class because kids are too sleepy at 9.
Certainly schools must incorporate new media and new technologies. Computers. Digital imagery. But not at the expense of the basics...things like spelling, grammar, our history and our heritage. And responsibility, instilled by penalties for being late or not submitting assignments.
It’s one thing to know how to use a pocket calculator. It’s another to understand why 2 plus 2 equals 4.
Educators must not ignore the tragic mistakes that were made last time Ontario reformed its schools. We spawned a generation of kids who can’t write, won’t read, know nothing about Canadian history, who have no sense of success and failure because nobody fails anymore; no respect ...
