Here's a message for anyone still struggling under any delusions about the real nature of labour unions. Toronto has probably the most left-wing, union-friendly mayor in its history, who has bent over backwards during his years in office to protect and expand union wages, perks and privileges, often at the expense of taxpayers and the city's fiscal wellbeing.

But the moment he deviates, even momentarily, from an absolute unquestioning willingness to give the unions exactly what they want, he becomes persona non grata:
