Against a backdrop of political intrigue, York Region police are investigating allegations that more than $100,000 is unaccounted for at one of the country's most storied cricket clubs.
The 56-year-old Maple Leaf Cricket Club in King City filed a complaint with police March 19 claiming the funds are mysteriously absent from the balance sheet along with about 150 cheque stubs.
The former head of the club, who stepped down last year and was elected president of Cricket Canada last weekend as rumours swirled about the financial scandal, is calling the allegations a failed act of political sabotage.
Police spokesperson Sgt. Laurie Perks said the allegations will be investigated by the force's criminal investigations office.
