In the city vs the unions, can we stop the time travel?
By Ellie Kirzner
There it was again, in the city’s press release on Monday, that “jobs for life” piece of deliberate vocabulary malfunction.
The mayor’s followers have crafted a language to reposition CUPE 416’s precious seniority principle as a rare entitlement, a selfish comfort at a time of scarcity and want. Oh, please.>> More

Cracks in the Socialist Reality Bubble Begin
Public sector workers in New York state are beginning to learn a few important lessons in math.
“We can no longer sustain the current pension system,” [Democrat Governor] Cuomo said, citing a projected 185 percent treasury-busting increase in pension costs from 2009 to 2015 if nothing is done.
“This is devastating to the state and the local governments,” he said of the rising costs.
“We need pension reform. We need it desperately.”

Mayor Rob Ford began the long, slow process Tuesday of dragging city council, kicking and screaming, into a new era of fiscal responsibility.
...when push comes to shove and 60%+ of every $$$ goes to wages union "negotiations" will be where the real long term savings will come and the sooner Ford lockouts out CUPE the sooner the unions make more "shell concessions" like their proposed wage freeze.

Northern Gateway "interveners" signed up without their knowledge;
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” said the 53-year-old woman on Tuesday from her home.
“I have never heard of this pipeline and I did not apply to speak in Canada,” she said, in broken English.
That’s strange. On the federal government’s National Energy Board website, Gudic is one of a whopping 4,522 registrants who apparently applied online to make an oral application. Her name, mailing address, e-mail and phone number are included on the website.
Gudic’s daughter, Flavia, also has never heard of the pipeline, that, if approved, would ship raw Alberta bitumen to Kitimat, B.C., to be sent to Asia via supertankers.
“Maybe the environmental organizations we donate to signed us up,” offered Flavia, a 19-year-old art student.MayBE!

Ezra Levant on Tuesday’s pipeline hearings
By Kathy Shaidle on Sunday, January 8th, 2012 No Comments
Ezra Levant:
According to research by Vivian Krause, the U.S. Tides Foundation and their Canadian affiliate have poured millions of dollars into 36 cookie-cutter groups to oppose Canadian resource industries.
They all sound so local and real — the Dogwood Initiative, the Rainforest Action Network, the Natural Resources Defence Council, etc.
But they’re just tentacles of the same foreign foundation.
I don’t blame foreign billionaires like the Rockefellers. It’s normal for them to want to control other people, even other countries.
I blame their Canadian puppets for taking money to undermine their own country’s interests.
***Remember: you can get more info — and ways to fight back — at OurDecision.ca
And follow @OurDecision_ca for ongoing developments on this fight between wealthy foreign interests like the Tides Foundation and Robert Redford vs. Canadian jobs and sovereignty.

Okay, here's the bombshell. The volcanic eruption in Iceland, since its first spewing of volcanic ash has, in just FOUR DAYS, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet, all of you.Of course you know about this evil carbon dioxide that we are trying to suppress it's that vital chemical compound that every plant requires to live and grow, and to synthesize into oxygen for us humans, and all animal life.I know, it's very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of: driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up till midnight to finish your kid's "The Green Revolution" science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, vacationing at home instead of abroad, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your 50 cents light bulbs with $10.00 light bulbs...well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just four days. The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth's atmosphere in just four days - yes - FOUR DAYS ONLY by that volcano in Iceland, has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And there are around 200 active volcanoes on the planet spewing out this crud any one time - EVERY DAY.

Vindication for the Iron Lady
Conrad Black Jan 7, 2012 – 7:05 AM ET Last Updated: Jan 6, 2012 1:46 PM ET
Though it is probably happening too late to be overly gratifying to her, events are piling on to vindicate Margaret Thatcher completely in her reservations about British integration in Europe. Her response to the proposal to reduce Britain to a local government in a federal Europe was, memorably: “No, no, no, and never.” And her reward for her refusal to get on board what was then the thundering bandwagon of Eurofederalism, was to be sent packing by her own ungrateful party, though she was the only British political leader who had won three consecutive, full-term election majorities since before the First Reform Act expanded the electorate in 1832.
She was immensely popular with millions of Britons as a patriotic and courageous leader who took Britain off financial life support, saved it from strangulation by over-mighty, almost anarchistic unions, built a prosperous, home-owning democracy, threw the Argentinians out of the little corner of the British Empire they had wrongfully seized (the Falkland Islands), and played a starring role in winning the Cold War. The Muslim Brotherhood’s big moment
Robert Fulford Jan 7, 2012 – 7:23 AM ET Last Updated: Jan 6, 2012 1:50 PM ET
This is an exciting time for the editors in Cairo who run Ikhwan, the official website of the Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood has suddenly become popular, and there’s never a lack of news to report.
China’s ambassador to Egypt dropped in the other day for an informal talk with Mohamed Morsi, head of the Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice Party. Last week, it was the Russian ambassador who came to chat with Morsi — about democratic values, according to the report on Ikhwan.
Diplomats from Nigeria, Cuba, Spain and elsewhere are anxious to connect with the Brotherhood. They realize that it’s now part of Egypt’s political future, perhaps even the most important part. Read More »

How foreign millionaires are bribing Canadian ‘greens’ to sabotage the Northern Gateway Pipeline hearings
By Kathy Shaidle on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012 No Comments
I first told you about this yesterday — OurDecision.ca is exposing the secret funding Canadian anti-oil sands activists are getting from big foreign donors like the Rockefeller Foundation and TIDES.
They’re exposing a different “green” group in each new radio ad — the first one is about the money behind the noble-sounding West Coast Environmental Law Foundation:
Paid by billionaires on the American west coast — and New York — to fight oil exports from Canada.
A hundred thousand dollars from America’s Rockefeller Brothers Fund to “prevent the development of a pipeline and tanker port” for our coast? Nearly $100,000 from Seattle’s Wilburforce Foundation to protect our country from oil tankers? Tell them to butt out!
To keep up with all the latest news about this stealth campaign to undermine Canadian democracy using these highly paid puppet “activists,” follow @OurDecision_ca on Twitter.

OurDecision.ca documents puppetmasters behind anti-oilsands lobby
VANCOUVER – January 2, 2012 – Foreign special interests are paying millions of dollars to local front groups to sabotage Canada’s energy industry, according to an advertising campaign launched today.
“The federal government’s hearings into the Northern Gateway Pipeline begin next week,” says Kathryn Marshall, spokesman for EthicalOil.org. “Canadians will be shocked to learn that anti-oilsands lobby groups opposing the project have taken millions of dollars from foreign special interests.”
The ad campaign started this morning on more than a dozen radio stations across northern B.C., and will also appear in ten weekly newspapers over the month of January. Each ad in the series highlights a different Canadian front group being paid by a foreign special interest.
Factual documentation for the ads, as well as an audio clip of the first of five radio ads, can be heard at the website www.OurDecision.ca.
“Whether or not Canada decides to build this pipeline is a Canadian decision, based on Canadian interests — not the political interests of foreigners or their Canadian puppets,” said Marshall. “Let’s have a national discussion about this — but foreigner billionaires and their local lobbyists should butt out.” (KEEP READING...)

Income inequality” seems to be the first buzzword of the new year. According to the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives, the 100 highest paid CEO’s of publicly-traded Canadian companies averaged $8.3-million a year, which is interesting, but hardly headline worthy.
But, that doesn’t stop people from having fun with the numbers. Toss that $8.3-million salary into a calculator and voila: “189 times higher than the $44,366″ earned by the average Canadian in 2010.
Hold on a minute. We’re talking about 100 individuals who run arguably the largest corporations in the land. Are they truly a useful barometer of salary fairness? Read More »

Ezra Levant goes after Calgary’s Muslim mayor, Naheed Nenshi
By Kathy Shaidle on Sunday, January 1st, 2012 No Comments
Ouch…
Here’s how Nenshi defended turning a blind eye to law breaking:
“It’s funny, the number of people who have talked to me in the last couple of days who have said ‘the Occupy Calgary people need to get off Olympic Plaza so that all citizens can have rights to their front lawn.’ And I say, OK, so all citizens except the ones you don’t like should have a right to the front lawn. Because all means all in my opinion.”
All means all.
Unless they’re Christians having a peaceful, drug-free, sex-free celebration of Christmas in the people’s “living room.” Then Nenshi sends in boys with the billy clubs. For a pastor singing Christmas carols and reading Bible passages.
***BTW: we’re assured that Nenshi isn’t gay, but like 90% of leftwing big city males, he acts like he is so he might as well be.
So for once, we’re not dealing with a gay bully attacking Christians, which makes for a nice change.

Two Gross Examples Of Political Correctness...

Words and The State: 2011 Edition
Early last November, during a heated discussion with her fellow passengers on a crowded Wimbledon to Croydon tram, a grumpy and stressed 34-year-old former dental receptionist named Emma West proffered up some rather un-PC opinions about immigration and what she saw as the loss of Britain's identity. The single mother of two remained in her seat throughout, and issued no physical or verbal threats, but she complained - profanely - that Britain's identity has been lost due to excessive immigration (she singled out Poles, Nicaraguans, and "blacks"), and opined that these people should go back and "sort out (their) own countries."
She would soon pay a massive price for her expressions. At the time of the incident British Transport officers merely escorted her off the tram and waited with her for the next one, but when one of her fellow passengers posted a cellphone video (language warning) a few weeks later, a nationwide womanhunt commenced - even the leader of Britain's opposition Labour Party got in on the act, issuing an "important appeal" to track her down - and on November 29th West was arrested and charged with racially-aggravated harassment. Denied bail over fears of revenge attacks after her home address was circulated online, the distraught West was sent to a category A prison ("the highest security prison in England…for 'prisoners…whose escape would be highly dangerous to the public or national security') and her children were taken away from her by social services. Now infamous, West would become an entirely unwitting lightning rod for inflamed passions on both sides of the immigration debate. British journalist and CNN host Piers Morgan tweeted that she should be deported, scores of "anti-racist" online commenters called for her to be beaten and/or raped, and multiple death threats were issued. On the other side, anti-immigration proponents and white nationalists of all stripes appropriated her name and image, and practically deified her for her anxious outburst.
Tough gig for a single working-class mum with a history of severe depression.
One week after Emma West was arrested and jailed, four Somali-born Muslim women who had brutally assaulted a passer-by, kicking her bloody and unconscious while shouting "kill the white slag!" and "white b****!", walked free from court. Unlike Emma West, they had not been charged with any race-related offences.
