Bush Shouldn't Hold His Breath Waiting For Answers

Bush challenges Iraq plan critics
President Bush
Mr Bush challenged opponents for ideas, not just criticism
President Bush has hit back at critics of his revised plan for Iraq, which includes sending 21,500 extra troops.

In his weekly radio address Mr Bush said members of Congress had a right to their views, but to oppose everything and propose nothing was irresponsible.

Mr Bush's revised plan was condemned by Democrats and some Republicans as a dangerous escalation of the conflict.

The president's comments came as the US Secretary of State held talks in Israel at the start of a Middle East tour.

The BBC's Katya Adler, in Jerusalem, says Condoleezza Rice's tour is aimed at winning Arab support for President Bush's new strategy in Iraq.

But many leaders want more US engagement in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in exchange for their backing, our correspondent adds.

'Tragic mistake'

In his radio address, Mr Bush challenged Congress to come up with a better plan than his, in which the Iraqi security forces are meant to take the lead in tackling the conflict.

Bush has plunged the US into an unwinnable situation. What do you expect the democrats to say?

Sending 20 thousand more troops won't solve it, and any half wit can see that.

I guess we can wait and see what the outcome is.

I am rather amused by those who will defend the Iraq war, in spite of the obvious lies, and deceptions all throughout.

There is only one way to win this, level it. Drop hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of thousands of bombs and blow it sky high. It worked in Germany, and it worked in Japan.

Why are people so stupid to fall for this nonsense???

I was wrong George.....Anonymous has put forward a solution. Not quite the solution I would have offered but then it is about what I would expect.

allright smart ass. Do YOU think sending 20,000 troops is going to solve the problem?

If not, what do YOU propose?

What do you think will solve this crisis?

You can't sit on your high horse and make smart ass comments, and not offer what you think will work. I said what I think would do the job. Now it's your turn.

I certainly won't hold MY breath...

I was being facetious...I can't believe you are serious about bombing the hell out of the country which would kill thousands of innocent civilians.

Will another 20,000 troops solve the problem? NO! But it can't hurt and possibly will send a message that the US is committed which might get some of the other nations off their asses and have them send troops.

Maybe this will also send a message to the religious factions. Shi'a 60%, Sunni 40%, that it would be to their advantage to form a coalition government and rebuild the country with the assistance of foreign aid.

I doubt very much whether we will ever see a democratic government based on our model but whatever is put in place has got to be better than the dictatorship under Sadam.

Saddam was a loose cannon and eventually he would have had to go to war with Iran, or even worse, form a coalition which would make it the the rulers of the middle east and allow them to keep their promise of destroying the State of Irsreal which IMHO the jews would fight and as they probably have nuclear capability we would be involved in a nuclear holocaust.

BTW before you jump all over me and bring up the innocent civilians that are being killed now you should know that the vast majority of these murders are being committed by other Iraqis.

no solution to propose then I see.

Interesting.

oh btw, the vast majority of murders being committed by other Iraqis? Say it ain't so.

Come on Anonymous.....I have offered my thoughts but you seem to be having a comprehension problem so I am just wasting my time. I support freedom of expression but even I have to set limits.........

oh quit your whining. You haven't offered any solution, besides 'well let's see if the democrats have anything to offer'. Bush has created a no win situation, because of his mistakes and bull headedness, so what would you expect?

The point is Bush has created a bad situation for which there is little the US can do to solve it. All that's left is to try and salvage the situation, and sending 20,000 extra troops is not going to do it. We are playing with a lot of people's lives here, and playing politics with, 'well what do you have to offer better after I've clearly shown I can't solve it either' is just ludicrous.

I expect you will likely censure some reasonable comments on the situation...

Two things....

1) It is obvious that your are having a problem reading between the lines; "you seem to be having a comprehension problem so I am just wasting my time" which to most people would mean that this thread isn't going anywhere except as a vehicle for you to bash Bush.
2) As far as you last comment we will never know as so far you have not made any "reasonalbe" comments.
