Cherry reforms a rat
January 23, 2007

Finally something good has come from a Don Cherry rant. Sledge hockey Paralympian Paul Rosen was reunited with his stolen gold medal last weekend after Hockey Night in Canada's Cherry fumed about it on "Coach's Corner."

The medal was stolen at a charity event last week while Rosen, the goaltender for the sledge hockey team, was signing autographs.

In typical bombastic style, Cherry urged the thief to drop it in a mailbox and said he would be "a rat" if he failed to do so. The repentant thief took the lecture to heart and dropped the medal, containing eight ounces of gold and worth about $6,000, in a mailbox close to where it was stolen in Downsview Park.

Cherry's rant "probably made whoever did it feel he had gone too far," Rosen said in crediting him for helping get the medal back.

Maybe Cherry should consider a career working for Crime Stoppers.
