IG Doesn't Mince Words About OSSTF Resolution

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Just teach for crying out loud..

Teachers withdraw Israel boycott resolution

What’s more, he added, “I believe the CUPE resolution brought CUPE into disrepute in the eyes of the public and I don’t want that to happen to the OSSTF.”

TOO LATE!

argh. Forget your stupid resolutions. How about getting teachers into classrooms and teaching. I couldn't give a fiddler's fuck what the OSSTF's stance is on Israel, Palestine or figgy pudding for that matter. I couldn't care less what the relationship of the OSSTF and the Maple Leafs are when it comes to the teachers pension fund. All they need to care about is that teachers have a clean, safe place to work and are paid a reasonable wage for their services.

For god sake.. what about the children! (Isn't that the proper mantra?)

Hear hear. I agree with concerns regarding Israel's conduct in the disputed territories, and perhaps Israel should be sanctioned...but not in my kids' classrooms. It's the teachers' duty to prepare children for the time when they have to think on their own and come up with rational decisions as such. It is not the teachers' duty to use the classroom as a pedestal for preaching a particular view point (right, left, centre whatever).

Having said that, I don't fault the teachers' union per se, but the union members who have hijacked this organization to push their own personal agendas.

Shame on them.
