Maybe It Is Just Semantics But......

But I think the justice might have gone to far in defining the second mom a parent (the parents of a child can be two women or two men,) even though in some circles the definition of parent agrees (a father or mother; one who begets or one who gives birth to or nurtures and raises a child; a relative who plays the role of guardian). I don't think this decision, even though it was to protect the child, is going to be accepted by all.

Court: Boy has a dad, a mom - and another mom
By SUN MEDIA

LONDON, Ont. -- A 5-year-old London boy now has two moms and a dad as a result of an Ontario Court of Appeal decision released yesterday.

The same-sex partner of the boy's biological mother was determined to be his mom too in an unanimous decision rendered by three appeal court judges.

Social conditions and attitudes have changed to such an extent since the passage of the Children's Law Reform Act in 1990 that it's now possible "the parents of a child can be two women or two men," said the decision written by Justice Marc Rosenberg.

Or, in this case, a man and two women, said the ruling supported by the signatures of justices Roy McMurtry and Jean-Marc Labrosse.

The case was initiated in early 2003 when the lesbian couple asked Justice David Aston to declare the partner of the boy's birth mother as a third legal parent, while maintaining the status of the biological mother and father.

"I have two moms and a daddy," the boy said outside the court.

Aston was told the boy lived with the two women but spent time with his father as well.

The boy's father wasn't opposed to the application but made sure his rights were represented by a lawyer.
