I'm nobody's 'trained seal'
Re "Business makes a point" (Jan. 2): Yet another column by Sue-Ann Levy bashing the city unions and the contracting out of work only to union shops.
Never have I read in any of her columns that Levy is a card-carrying union member, as are all the staff writers.
Wouldn't it be nice if the Sun opened the City Hall beat to non-union writers, those who more fairly represented the majority of Toronto's citizens, not just the downtown property owners who drive.
I was just wondering, when Levy had to join the union, knowing our propensity for sloth and greed, was she dragged in kicking and screaming, as I think would be the case, or did she join meekly because there was no other choice?
I started in Etobicoke with CUPE 185 and after amalgamation, Local 416 -- and you were a member or you didn't work. I don't agree with everything CUPE does or stands for (Sid Ryan and Palestine), but I take great pride in what I do and I do my job well.
We're not all Mayor Miller's "trained seals" or his "minions" as she likes to call us.
I've never called Levy, Doug Holyday's, Case Ootes' or Jane Pitfield's trained monkey, but now that I think of it ...

Etobicoke
(This has clearly gone bananas)
