Compensate seniors for accounting glitch: Layton

TORONTO — Federal NDP Leader Jack Layton says Ottawa should come up with the cash owed to seniors shortchanged because of an accounting glitch.
Between 2001 and 2006, Statistics Canada low-balled inflation rates by half a percentage point, meaning payments to old-age pensioners were lower than they should have been.
The government uses inflation rates to calculate how much to pay out for pensions.
Layton says it's unacceptable that some of the most vulnerable people in the country are being punished for an error made by Statistics Canada.
The NDP and seniors groups say the government admitted to the accounting error in August, but has yet to make any payments.
Layton met with retired police officers and other groups today to set in motion plans to force the federal government to pay up.

Suddenly 'taliban Jack' has a purpose.
I pay his salary so I would expect at least once during his time in office he does something beneficial. I'm sorry....when he was a Toronto Councilor he proposed and had passed a resolution that made Toronto a Nuclear Free Zone and lo and behold Toronto hasn't been bombed although it is obvious that his left wing comrades are doing more damage than any atomic bomb.
