Cottage Industries WANT Parents To Abrogate Their Responsiilities

Kevin Libin: When Conservatives apologize for being conservative

Why Iris Evans upset certain people is obvious. The Alberta Finance minister told a Toronto audience this week that, in her opinion, when parents are “raising children you don't both go off to work and leave them for somebody else to raise.” Having a parent stay at home, she said, was “raising children properly.” Cue predictable reaction from social liberals and welfare-statists here. “Truly outrageous,” said Alberta Liberal leader David Swann, insisting the premier fire her for the comments, if she didn't retract them. “Disrespectful,” said Martha Friendly, executive director of Toronto’s Childcare Resource and Research Unit.

The minister apologized. What’s not quite so obvious is, why she felt she needed to.

As one political watcher put it to me, we now have purported conservatives apologizing for expressing conservative views.
