Full Comment’s Cody Gault brings you a dose of international punditry at its finest. Today: During a recent trip abroad U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton came under fire (this time for real, if only figurative, unlike her bogus 2008 election claims) for berating an African student she thought had asked about her husband’s thoughts on China’s increasing influence on Africa. In fact the student was seeking President Obama's thought. But before there was time for clarification, an irate Ms. Clinton barked: “Wait, you want me to tell you what my husband thinks? My husband is not the secretary of state. I am.”
While we aren’t sure why such a benign question evoked such irritation, we know a few pundits who are more than willing to offer an idea or two...
The New York Times’ Maureen Dowd, who has something of a love-hate relationship with Ms. Clinton, chalks up Hillary’s uncharacteristic lapse in diplomatic cool to spousal rivalry:
