Hume: Transit ills are taking back seat to scandal

The reasons are familiar: Lousy service, lousy passengers, surly operators, surly riders ...
If all that wasn't enough, now TTC chair Adam Giambrone has been caught with his pants down and run afoul of the guardians of Toronto the Good.
Everyone comes out of this looking bad, ticket taker and traveller, citizen and politician. And right on cue, the media have lived up to their role as self-appointed judge and chief hypocrite.
Forgotten in this downward spiral of anger and accusation is public transit itself. True, the TTC is topic No. 1 right now in Toronto, but does anyone dare believe the commission will benefit from the outrage? Quite the opposite; it has been demonized and demoralized. Ask anyone: the TTC is an example of all that's wrong in the city today.
