Adam Giambrone - Mini-Miller rides in: Levy
Adam Giambrone, after entering the city’s elections office Monday to sign up for his mayoralty bid as if he were Caesar marching into Rome, told the media he intends to “listen.”
It’ll be a race to the wire
Who has the mettle to be Mayor of Toronto? Forget mettle. Who’ll get the votes?
Mayoral dog fight begins
Let the dog fight over the mayor’s office begin.
He’s not ready to file his mayoralty papers — just yet.
But Councillor Rob Ford confirmed Monday he recently did some polling, which showed him running third behind candidates George Smitherman and Adam Giambrone.
The poll, done by the Logistics Group, Jan. 21-23, placed the tough-talking, penny-pinching councillor at 13%, behind Smitherman at 46% and Giambrone at 17%. Rocco Rossi and Joe Pantalone came in at 10%, with Giorgio Mammoliti trailing at 4%.
Some 500 eligible voters across the city were asked who they’d vote for if an election was held today.
Ford said he’s not prepared to “jump the gun” and announce quite yet but will definitely make up his mind whether to run for mayor or councillor by early March.
Meanwhile, the 40-year-old said he’s “very sore” from working out with a personal trainer for 2 1/2 hours a day. He hopes to get down to more of a fighting weight by paring up to 27 kilograms from his 141-kilogram frame.“I’m feeling the waters,” Ford said Monday. “I’m having a good time and meeting a lot of people.”
Perhaps as a taste of what we can expect from the would-be mayoralty candidate, Ford said he’s very surprised at how high Smitherman finished in his — and other — polls.
He said he’s shocked that people have forgotten or don’t know that Smitherman “squandered” $1-billion on the e-Health scandal.
“He made a mess of the Ministry of Health,” Ford said. “Now he’s coming back and wants to run the city.”
