Kelly McParland: Dalton McGuinty in Wonderland

Whoever invented the term "dreaming in technicolour" must have been hanging around Queen's Park recently while Dalton McGuinty was cobbling together his latest speech from the throne. Lieutenant Governor David Onley was proceeding along nicely, reading out the usual platitudes, when suddenly he veered off into strange territory. It's as if the Premier was a secret Johnny Depp fan and had spent the weekend writing the speech while ingesting the latest rendition of Alice in Wonderland. The Liberals, it suggested, have big plans for a mining development in northern Ontario.
"The plan also looks to capitalize on northwestern Ontario's deposit of chromite -- said to be one of the largest deposits in the world and a key ingredient in stainless steel," the government pledged. "The government will work with northerners and Aboriginal communities to take advantage of the find and continue to protect half of the northern Boreal Forest."
