Mayoral candidate Olivia Chow says she supports a Toronto handgun ban.

In a Wednesday chat with readers on thestar.com, Chow said “yes” when asked if she backed a ban.

“Don’t see why ordinary citizens (not police) need them. Several 15-year-old kids were shot with handguns. We need to prevent violence,” she wrote.

Ryerson University student union votes to join BDS

    Ryerson University, Toronto

The student union of Ryerson University in Toronto voted to join the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement aimed at Israel, at least the third Canadian university to do so in the last year.

The vote on took place at the Ryerson Student Union’s annual general meeting on April 2, which was attended by over one hundred students who came to vote on the question of whether the student union should join the BDS movement, the Eyeopener student newspaper reported.

Following passage of the motion, the Ryerson Student Union will now be prohibited from working with companies who do business in Israel, including Home Depot, Costco and Sears, the Eyeopener reported. Sabra Hummus, sold at the Ryerson cafeteria, also will be discontinued.

Students opposed to the BDS motion, many of whom tore up their voting cards and left the meeting in protest, said they felt the vote was unfair and that the student union was hostile to their interests...

I’m a particular fan of old cartoons, especially, the satirical illustrations of William Hogarth, James Gillray, and George Cruikshank, all of whom were great visual chroniclers of social and political history. Their pieces can be rather wordy, but the wordiness adds cryptic …

Lying Sleazebag McGuinty Says Lying Sleazebag Wynne As Incompetent As He Is - Both Know Nuffin Bout No Emails

Dalton McGuinty has broken his silence of the last three days, telling the Star it’s “ridiculous” to think Premier Kathleen Wynne could have known about wiping clean computer hard drives when he didn’t.

The former premier told the Star in a telephone call from Harvard University on Monday he was surprised as Ontarians were to learn his former chief of staff, David Livingston, was being investigated by Ontario Provincial Police for breach of trust.

“I found out about those allegations along with Ontarians at the end of last week,” McGuinty said of the Thursday bombshell that rocked Queen’s Park.
