Mike Stafford On Mike Harris

I think the one thing Stafford's comments point out is that unlike McGinty Mike Harris kept his promises and love him or hate him he was consistent. If making a comment like "Get those f*&$ing indians....." was an indictable offense the majority of people would be facing an inquiry.

I've had a love-hate relationship with former Premier Mike Harris for years. I loved the fact that he drove special interest groups crazy. I wept tears of joy at some of the teacher protests I covered live at Queen's Park. There's nothing funnier than being called a "fascist" by some bearded guy in a Tilly jacket because I worked for "the Harris media."

The left-wing Toronto news media had a field day. Sudden rainstorms were blamed on the Harris government.

But after five blunder-filled years of the NDP, the Harris machine looked like a Ferrari next to the Rae Hyundai. They worked their mandate, did their press conferences and ignored the whining of the pissed-off left in the wake.
