Blair & Miller MIA

I live in the Keele/Eglinton area and was not aware that the area was under seige by muggers and I have to wonder why if they were committing sex acts against women the police would be issuing warnings (thanks to Jane Doe) but the same type of warnings were not issued in these cases. Why? It is obvious that Mayor Miller's Safety Iniatived are not working.

Gang life's a family affair
Teens taught violent ways: Police
By ROB LAMBERTI, TORONTO SUN

A gang of young teens who allegedly learned the finer points of their criminal trade from older siblings have been swept up by police in Toronto's west end.

Ten members of the Crips-backed New Born Assassins were arrested in the past few days following three violent muggings in the Keele St.-Eglinton Ave. W. area.

"They're very legitimate," unit Det. Kurt Diener said yesterday of the gang, which apparently formed in September. The members are from an area high school he didn't want to reveal.

'TRAIL THE VICTIM'

"They're organized," he said. "As a matter of fact, they're that organized where they plan the robbery. They all get together ... and from there they trail the victim, do the robbery and then right after that they have debriefing."

Diener said police know of three victims of the gang's swarming spree that began in late fall. The most recent happened Monday in the Rogers Rd.-Keele area when a 17-year-old male was knocked unconscious in a midday attack in a laneway. He was robbed of his cap and cellphone.

Diener said police know there are more victims and want them to come forward.

"We can't be afraid of these gang members, they can't let them run their lives," he said.

'YOU ARE ENTITLED'

Diener alleged the suspects, ages 14 to 16 who were arrested Wednesday, only shared the spoils of a robbery if they took part in the violence. Those who stood by got nothing, he said.

"You have to actually take part in the robbery where you do some physical violence to the person and then you are entitled to (part of) the money," he said.

Diener said the young teens got so savvy because "they watched their siblings."

The 10 youths -- three aged 14, five who are 15 and two aged 16 -- are charged with two counts each of conspiring to commit an indictable offence, robbery and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.
