I was disappointed to see that Douglas Bell — who's built a name for himself as an interesting and energetic blogger these last 16 months — is moving on from his Spectator perch at Toronto Life. Bell made a name for himself during the Conrad Black trial, but he also has done great work covering Livent and numerous other stories emerging out of Toronto's money-gossip-business news nexus. On at least one occasion (probably more), his blogging has suplied the factual grist for my own columnizing.
What I like about Bell is that — unlike most other bloggers (including me) — he gets off his ass and does some actual reporting. That's the future of the blogosphere, IMHO. We already have enough partisans, ideologues and assorted windbags (again, mea culpa) doing their pajama commentary from cubicles and basements. Bell put shoe leather into his posts, and will likely do so again under a different media brand. One hopes that others will follow his example.
