I Am Going To Let The Envronment Gurus Debate...

.....because I am a little skeptical and I remember the ozone layer controversy which was the Baskin Robbins flavour of the day. CFCs were the enemy so we eliminated the majority of the CFCs. At that time the chemical companies and refrigeration equipment manufacturers hit the bonanza.....today it is the carbon credit folks. No one can argue the liberals didn't do anything.....they issued these:

Devon K.
No offence to the anti-Harper crowd but the Tories have brought in more real legislation, call it weak if you will, in 1 year than the Liberals did in 13 years. The Liberals did absolutely nothing for 13 years.
Matt
Ken,
Given the situation I think our government has done a great job.
They are actually doing something to control emissions.
The Liberals signed Kyoto and did nothing, leaving us in this embarassing situation.
Despite all the posturing from the opposition, none of them have actually proposed a better plan.
Dave
Saying the Liberals did nothing in 13 years is just Conservative rhetoric that does not hold any fact whatsoever. It was the Conservatives that opposed and voted down every single piece of action the Liberals tried to take on climate change. It was the Conservatives that slashed funding for environmental programs as soon as they took power. Also, according to Environment Canada, emissions went down by 6 megatonnes in 2005-2006 - During the Martin administration. So you Liberal bashers need to stop being spoon fed by your Conservative hero, and check the REAL facts.

wow, you anti-harpers out there must think that canada is a big emmiter, but do the research, canada emmites about 2% of green house gases into the atmosphere. If every car was taken off the road, and every canadian business that polluted shut down, there would be NO IMPACT on the rate of climate change. How are we going to solve the problem by forcing drastic measures on the canadian population. As for the hypocrites out there demanding more, ask yourself, do you heat your home? Do you use transportion that burns fossil fuels? Do you like using electricity in your home? Until you are a zero emmiter, please refrain from pretending you are a saint among sinners. We are all polluters. And keep in mind, canada as a whole is just one tiny piece of a giant problem.

KRIS- please clarify your opening statement, when are you refering to when you say
"the world used to look to canada for environmental leadership" I am a political science and canadian history major, please enlighten me. What do you base that statement on? Who used to look to us for environmental leadership???
