The latest issue of the McGill Daily were treated to a commentary piece by a cultural studies major named Guillermo MartÃnez de Velasco (http://www.mcgilldaily.com/2012/10/you-are-racist/). His point was summed up neatly in the headline and subhead: "You are racist: Even if you think you're not." Racism, he instructed, "is a systematic essentialization of others' perceived cultural signifiers;" the concept of diversity is racist, too, he maintained, because it "wipes away the recognition of historical processes of oppression and domination." And so on.
