National Post editorial board: NDP should give Gaza boat supporters the boot
The folks organizing the “Canadian Boat to Gaza” style themselves as humanitarians. In fact, they are radical anti-Israeli activists who have co-opted the language of humanitarianism to further their single-minded campaign against the Jewish state. We know this because these same folks have no interest in sending a “Boat to Syria,” where more than 1,000 protesters have been slaughtered in recent weeks. Nor are they interested in sending boats to Libya or Yemen. Just Israel, where the humanitarian toll has been much lighter. Thankfully, most mainstream Canadian politicians — including, apparently, NDP leader, Jack Layton — recognize such hateful anti-Israel attitudes for what they are.
The Boat to Gaza activists are participating in a boat convoy that will challenge Israel’s blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. Their stated goal is to bring humanitarian aid and “carry exports out of Gaza.” Donors already can send aid to Gaza through both Israel and Egypt, of course. But such transfers are subject to inspections meant to ensure that Hamas does not import armaments and explosives for slaughtering Jews. By seeking to undermine such security measures with their convoy, the Boat to Gaza activists are in effect allying themselves with Hamas terrorists. And no one should be surprised if the Israeli military deals with them in that spirit, even if it means risking a repeat of the lethal episode that unfolded under similar circumstances last year. Ann Coulter on the ‘Liberal Mob’ of the American Left
Posted on June 8, 2011 by Jack
New York Times bestselling author and conservative political commentator Ann Coulter’s new book, “Demonic: How the Liberal Mob is Endangering America”, tackles politics once again, this time taking on the liberal left and what she describes as their “mob behavior.”
In “Demonic,” Coulter traces the words and movements of groups from the Ku Klux Klan and the SDS to anti-war protesters and Democrats today to argue her point that liberals have “consistently used mob tactics to implement their idea of the ‘general will.’”
“Just as fire seeks oxygen, Democrats seek power, which is why they will always be found championing the mob whether the mob consists of Democrats lynching blacks or Democrats slandering the critics of Obama Care as racists,” Coulter writes.
“Demonic” is the eighth book from Coulter, also a frequent television political commentator.
Read an excerpt from “Demonic” below, then check out some other books in the “GMA” library.

A Chinese migrant seeking refugee status in Canada on the grounds that he faced persecution back home for his Christian beliefs was repeatedly asked by the Immigration and Refugee Board last year to describe what Jesus was “like as a person.” (…)
In assessing Mr. Wang’s refugee claim, board adjudicator Daniel McSweeney asked Mr. Wang: “So tell me about Jesus as a person. What was he like?
“Jesus is son of God,” Mr. Wang said.
“I am not asking who he was or what he did. I am asking what is he like as a person,” Mr. McSweeney said.
“Jesus was conceived through the holy ghost and was born in this world,” Mr. Wang replied.
The answer did not satisfy the board member. “Anybody could memorize a creed and recite the creed. I want to know what you believe and what you know of Jesus as a person.”
“In my heart he is my saviour,” Mr. Wang answered.
“That is not . . . again, tell me what Jesus is as a person and this is the last time I am going to ask you.”

Meals Prepared By A Chef Who
...trained in a lumber camp not an Art College.
George Jonas: Cooking lessons from a time traveller
I don’t cook, but I like eating and reading, probably in that order, so I curl up with a cookbook once in a while. Don’t take this literally. I seldom curl up with anything these days, but I find a well-written cookbook almost as enjoyable as a well-prepared meal and significantly healthier.
People may be equal, but cuisines definitely aren’t. Neither are periods. A gourmet should travel not only geographically but in time. Ideally, I’d take my breakfast in Edwardian England and my lunch (except it would be called dinner) in Prince Metternich’s Austria. For a supper of game, I’d go back to the 18th century, and for a supper of seafood, across the Labrador strait to Newfoundland.
Have you ever had steamer clams and a dish of seal meat, washed down with callibogus? No? If you’ve delicate taste buds, it’s just as well, but if you’re looking for a gastronomical experience, you’ve missed something.

Kline Questions DePape's Sincerity...
Jesse Kline: DePape doesn’t understand what the Arabs are fighting for
Winston Churchill is often attributed as saying that, if you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart and if you’re not a conservative when you’re 40, you have no brain. So it’s hard to fault young Brigette DePape — the Senate page who was ejected from Friday’s speech from the throne after holding up a “Stop Harper” sign — for being idealistic.
DePape called for a “Canadian version of an Arab Spring.” That’s right, we should all take to the streets and demand free and fair elections — you know, like the one we had on May 2. Now you’d think that a college student would know that we enjoy the freedom and system of government that thousands of Arabs are fighting, and dying, to achieve. But she somehow thinks that our first-past-the-post system invalidates the entire democratic process. I suppose we should expect contradictions like this from someone who professes to support democracy, but took a job in the unelected Senate.

...unless the city beauracry is given the $$$ to form an artsy/fartsy committee, to hire consultants, etc. Simplicity and common sense is not a hallmark of city administration.
Art bike inspires councillor, but will he save it from the scrapheap?
Is the neon orange, abandoned bike on Dundas St. W. public art or an eyesore?

...on the reasons behind the growth in the west of Israel bashing...
FP’s Lawrence Solomon: Oil redeems Israel
Prior to the 1973-74 OPEC oil crisis, Israel was the darling of the left, extolled as a feisty, altruistic country that made socialism work in a hostile neighbourhood of Arab military dictatorships and Muslim theocracies. The liberal press defended Israel against those who objected to Israel’s existence. The liberal intelligentsia — Jew and non-Jew alike — sent their youth to Israeli kibbutzes, to be inspired by this utopian model of communal life where all received the same wage, regardless of occupation.
Almost immediately after the OPEC nations quadrupled oil prices to punish the West for its support of Israel, the left turned, along with many in the center and on the right, too.

Matt Gurney: While rogue page calls for a Canadian Spring, dozens die in Damascus
DePape probably doesn't intend violence in the streets, but that's what a "Canadian Spring" would mean.
Today, I liveblogged the Throne Speech while watching the feed on CBC NewsNet, and due to the CBC’s camera angles, didn’t see Bridgette DePape (a.k.a. Bridgette Marcelle) approach the Prime Minister and Governor General and hold up her “Stop Harper” sign. I found out about it via Twitter, as both reporters and government officials in the Senate reported the rare protest during a major speech. Indeed, it wasn’t until after the speech had concluded that I (and the rest of Canada) learned more about Ms. DePape, who helpfully released a press statement (with her phone number) even before she’d been escorted from Parliament in her newly unemployed state.
In her statement, she called for a Canadian version of the Arab Spring. As that pearl of wisdom reached me, via both online and televised mediums almost simultaneously, I couldn’t help but note the irony of Ms. DePape’s statement. Exactly while I was reading her call for a Canadian Spring, CBC was providing a news update from the Middle East. Today’s stories: Dozens killed as violence continues to flare across the region. Let's Cut Layton Some Slack...
...remember that as a Toronto councilor he was the major player ensuring that the city did not come under nuclear attack.
Layton’s wacky delusion that he holds some sort of power
Scott Stinson: The NDP leader is essentially arguing that since the Conservatives went from a minority government to a majority government, Stephen Harper should make a greater effort to adopt opposition policy
Courting nationalists: Layton’s risky Quebec policy
Canadians need to know where the NDP would stand during a third drive to split the country.
