Man eludes gang
By JONATHAN JENKINS
Shot in the thigh and knee by a gang armed with at least two semi-automatics, a bleeding man was able to run away and flag down police.
"His first words to the officers on scene were he had no idea why anyone would want to shoot him," Toronto police Sgt. Norm Marshall said.
The victim, 30, was able to attract the attention of patrolling officers near Dundas and River Sts. just before 11 p.m. Friday.
He said he was confronted by five men who pulled out guns and began shooting him.
"There were a number of cars in the area that were shot up by stray bullets," Marshall said.
Two 9 mm pistols were found dumped nearby, he said.
No other injuries were reported and there is no description of the suspects.
Police break up brawl involving machetes, bottles
CTV.ca News Staff
Residents of a Scarborough neighbourhood called police after witnessing a brawl that involved about two dozen youths armed with machetes, beer bottles and clubs Saturday night.
The youths fled into Woburn Park and a nearby ravine when police arrived at the scene of the gang-style battle on Tuxedo Crescent off Markham Road near Ellesmere.
Police responded at about 10 p.m. after receiving a call from residents of a nearby building.
They told police the combatants were fighting behind the building and "chasing people with machetes," Toronto police Staff Sgt. Tony Forchione told The Toronto Star.
Police did not pursue the youths, and no injuries or arrests were reported.
