Green is Good, Greed is Good

"Green is Good." The message is being drumbeated into the grey matter of all of us who inhabit the earth. The concept is not only ubiquitous but indeed glorious. Those who think that their duty on this earth is to live for the glory of God, have rarely resisted the impulse to do what's necessary for clean air, clean water. But the GIG (acronym for Greeen is Good) is now about so much more than what we breathe and drink. It's about rescuing the planet from the marauders, those who would destroy us all as long as there was a buck to be made. Earth has become the new Christ. It is being tormented and persecuted and is on the verge of crucifixion. The new Romans are those who make carbon the old fashioned way. They burn it. The Pontius Pilate in GIG is the United States. Pontius Pilate is willing to get rid of God's only son if that's what will make his evil empire happy. The U.S. is willing to murder the planet if it serves the interests of Wall Street, K Street, Exxon, the Pentagon and Haliburton. Is Oliver Stone thinking about making GIG -- The Movie? Does a bear leave a carbon footpint in the woods?

To know GIG is to know that the United States is the only major country that has not signed on to the Kyoto Protocol, and since it burns more carbon than any other country, it becomes in this new Green War what the Soviet Union represented in the cold war. If you are reading this in the comfort of your American study, you may find it hard to believe that the country you reside in is being portrayed as the capital of the new Evil Empire. Since September 11, 2001, you have been told that the evil doers are in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Iran. Who would have thunk that GIG would come along and declare that the real evil doers are in New York, Washington and Houston. "Houston we have a problem. We are evil."

No sermon can be preached without a preacher. And who could have more credibile preaching the GIG message damning the U.S. than one of its own sons. Al Gore, sometimes known as "The Goracle" has been obscenely successful at creating the impression that the U.S. is public enemy number one. In recent days, information has been developed which will lead some to believe that the central organizing principle in Goracle's enterprise is greed. Will the congregation please turn to Page 22 of the book of Stone for the words of Gore-don Gekko. " The new law of evolution in corporate America seems to be survival of the unfittest. Well, in my book you either do it right or you get eliminated...I am not a destroyer of companies. I am a liberator of them! The point is ladies and gentleman, that greed -- for lack of a better word -- is good. Greed is right. Greed works. Greed clarifies, cuts through and captures the essence of the evolutionary spirit. Greed, in all its forms -- greed for life, for money, for love, knowledge -- has marked the upward surge of mankind. And greed will....save that other malfunctioning corporation called the USA." In the Stone movie, Wall street, Gore-don Gekko was the corporate raider. If Oliver stone does GIG, the director could choose to cast the Goracle in a similar role. plundering the U.S. economy to serve the interests of those who invest in Green is Good companies like the ones the Goracle and his friends own. But the smart money says Stone would quickly purge the notion of portraying the Goracle as a rapacious raider. In the Hollwood world of recycled ideology it is so much easier to just blame America.
