N.B Judge Grants Journalist Status To Blogger???

Does this now become the law of the land. I don't think so and this particular blogger proves this by this threat; "well I'm a blogger. And I'm going to blog this forever and ever and ever until I get some answers." which to me implies he is making the news not reporting the news. Journalists are supposed use the five Ws in carrying out their assignments....as bloggers we aren't hampered by this requirement.

N.B. blogger not satisfied with police apology

The Saint John Police Force has apologized to a New Brunswick blogger for deleting data from his digital camera at a 2006 protest outside a business conference, but Charles LeBlanc says it isn't enough.

"They didn't write anything about the way I was arrested," LeBlanc said about the letter that police hand-delivered this week.

"Why was I singled out? Why was I forced on the ground? Why was I assaulted? …The ambulance came to my cell, I had two lumps on my head."

He's called on the police commission to hold a public inquiry into the incident outside a conference last June for Atlantica, a group proposing a Maritime-New England free-trade zone.

But deputy police chief Bill Reid said an investigation found the arrest was conducted properly.

"The outside review included an officer from Nova Scotia who is a use-of-force trainer," Reid said. "He looked at that whole aspect of the arrest and certainly deemed it was very appropriate, and given we did have a review of that and were very comfortable with the fact it was done properly."

The issue of deleting pictures — LeBlanc says 200 photos were removed — will be dealt with "as an internal matter, and we've made an apology as a result of that," Reid said.

LeBlanc, who writes about poverty and politics on his website, was arrested and pinned to the ground by three police officers. A police officer later admitted to deleting a photo of himself from LeBlanc's camera.

The blogger maintained he did nothing different from any other journalist covering the event and was singled out. He was charged with obstruction of justice but in November, a judge acquitted him, saying LeBlanc was merely "plying his trade" at the protest and shouldn't have been arrested.

LeBlanc said he thinks his arrest was a conspiracy to keep him quiet and he's asking for a public inquiry.

"I want the police commission to address this, and if they don't, well I'm a blogger. And I'm going to blog this forever and ever and ever until I get some answers."
