The Problems Seem Minor But Are Indicative Of Much Larger Problems

The fact that the fixer has to contact the TTC through their media department rather than going directly to the Facilities Management Department is one of the first problems. The second problem is that regular inspections are not being. The third problem is that TTC staff, cleaners, drivers, etc. are not reporting these problems and/or the problems are reported but are being ignored. If this was a private enterprise some managers would be looking for employment and possibly members of the board of directors would be looking for other ways of spending their time.

THE FIXER

The TTC's water heating bill must be at a high boil lately, with all the hot water going down the drain at Warden station.

One place that generates more complaints from readers than most is Warden, an east-end terminus for buses and subways at St. Clair and Warden Aves.

Like many TTC stations, it's badly in need of a facelift, if not a full renovation.

The peeling paint and decaying facade alone is enough to dampen the spirits of even the most upbeat commuters, not to mention the pervasive trash, dirty washrooms and overall air of neglect.

For example, we were there about six months ago and spotted a rusty bicycle with flat tires and a broken seat, locked to a fence post near the main doors.

It's still there.

David Voltinis called Monday to say he visited the men's washroom at Warden about a month ago, and noticed that a tap in one of the three sinks was pouring hot water.

He was in the washroom again last Sunday and found hot water "not dripping, but running," in a steady stream from the same tap, said Voltinis.

When we went there yesterday, hot water was trickling from the taps of two sinks and pouring from the one closest to the wall. We managed to turn off the tricklers, but couldn't budge the other.

As for the rest of the washroom, the mess in the stalls was appalling, but at least there wasn't much stink.

STATUS: Marilyn Bolton, who deals with media for the TTC, said she'd have maintenance staff check out the tap problem, noting it's probably a simple fix. She added that staff will also be asked to get rid of the abandoned bike.
