Tories Serious About Crime Bill-Liberals/NDP Are Not

Liberals walk out of confidence vote on crime bill

Last Updated: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 | 4:01 PM ET

Liberal MPs walked out of the House of Commons on Tuesday in protest of a motion, later passed, that called for the Senate to approve an omnibus crime bill by the beginning of March.

Led by Liberal House Leader Ralph Goodale, the caucus streamed out of the chamber as the vote was set to begin. Some Conservatives taunted the MPs as they exited, singing, "Na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye."

Under the motion, if the upper chamber fails to pass the crime bill by March 1, Prime Minister Stephen Harper will ask Gov. Gen. Michaƫlle Jean to dissolve Parliament and call an election.

The vote was deemed a matter of confidence by the Conservatives, meaning its defeat would have ousted their minority government and led to an election.

The Skinny said...

the liberals are serious enough to ensure proper study and that the laws are constitutional so that they are not struck down i court as often hastily shoved through laws are, but, the conservatives, are more interested in headlines. Not actually doing something for real.

But I, and many many people have pointed this out, but you have trouble, like Harper, of understanding this. Perhaps it's time stand aside and allow those who can get things done through.

Because, all I see Harper being serious about, is trying to make the liberals look bad, not actually doing something for real.

And that, unfortunately for you, me, and all Canadians, is the real truth. But I know you aren't particularly interested in, truth.
