It Is Going To Be A Couple Of Interesting Months For Political Junkies

We have two pseudo politicians who wouldn't look out of place in GQ and intellectually they are on par but one has not been bloodied in battle, yet, so it will be a couple of interesting months......

New leader wise to Harper's tactics

OTTAWA—When Stephen Harper reaches out, it's usually to whack an enemy. Michael Ignatieff senses that danger and is pushing back where Harper is most vulnerable.

Stupid is not an adjective normally attached to a Prime Minister respected for brains as well as elbows. So Harper knows as well as Ignatieff that the menace now stalking the government isn't a fissured coalition or the new leader of a weak party pretending to be strong. It's the economy, genius.

Shrewd as he sometimes is, the Prime Minister got that horribly wrong in a fiscal update that provoked a crisis by attacking foes while not laying a glove on recession. Having come so close to losing a 7-week-old government, a miscalculation eclipsing even Joe Clark's 1979 defeat, Harper isn't about to repeat the mistake.
