Hypocritical Posturing

The gun registrary has been a dismal failure as evidenced by this recent tragedy and the ever increasing street gun crimes across the country and especially last summer in Toronto. Liberals introduced the gun registary, it was Liberals who completely screwed up the process and the taxpayers and it was the Liberals who must accept responsibility for their 13 years of neglect related to crime in general and prison management and Charest should be ashamed of trying to grab a couple of votes by pandering to the hysteria that abounds in the country.

It's will likely be an emotional day as faculty and staff return to work at Montreal's Dawson College, after a brutal shooting which has ignited the debate on how to control firearms in Canada.

One woman was killed and 19 wounded when 25-year-old Kimveer Gill opened fire indiscriminately on Wednesday. Eighteen-year-old Anastasia DeSousa died of her wounds. Gill took his own life after being shot in the arm by police.

On Thursday, a tearful Quebec Premier Jean Charest said he will oppose Prime Minister Stephen Harper's plan to scrap the federal long-gun registry.

"I told Mr. Harper (Wednesday night) he can certainly expect a tense debate over the registry," Charest said Thursday after meeting with families of the victims.
