Cops Have Gun Pointed At Them During Foot Chase
It was all in response to a frightening incident that saw other officers staring down the barrel of a gun.
It began just after 11am, when police started following two men as they left a residence on Driftwood Ave.
They got into a white car occupied by another man and sped off towards a townhouse complex at Jane and Sheppard.
That's where authorities say two of those being tailed took out a weapon and aimed it at their pursuers.
"The officers took immediate cover and the suspects then fled the area," explains Sgt. David Knowles. "We had police here immediately. We set up a perimeter, attempted to locate these subjects, assisted by members of the E.T.F. and Police Dog Services."
A foot chase followed and cops collared one of the wanted men after searching a nearby townhouse complex.
The other two fled and it appears they may have escaped the dragnet.
No shots were fired during the incident and no one was injured, although the officers involved were said to be shaken up.
So were witnesses to the event.
"We saw two officers with guns drawn and maneuvering," remembers Joe Nemeth. "I just saw from the side of the corner of the building here and told the crew here let's get out of the way because there's something going on. A few minutes later they brought out an individual from the building."
Several schools in the area were reportedly locked down to prevent any intruders from hiding out in the buildings, but students weren't in any danger. The safeguard was lifted just after 3pm.
There's no immediate word on what triggered police interest in the men in the first place.
