Police Protect Shopkeepers & Tax Revenues

I would be interested in knowing where abouts in Cornwall, Ontario the cigarettes were coming into Canada. Is there a reserve in that area? Were any of the people arrested indians?

Mounties, OPP dismantle tobacco smuggling ring

FREDERICTON (CP) - RCMP have dismantled a smuggling ring that brought tobacco to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia from the United States through Cornwall, Ont.

Four men between the ages of 20 and 84 have been arrested, and police are looking for a fifth person.

Police seized 2,400 cartons of contraband cigarettes, three vehicles, a quantity of drugs and weapons.

The Mounties say "Operation Jumble" lasted 14 months and involved a joint effort with Fredericton city police and Ontario Provincial Police.

Sgt. Terry Lee Kennedy says the sale of contraband cigarettes creates unfair competition with honest merchants, and robs the provinces of significant tax revenue.
