I Am No Fan Of Dalton

But of all the promises he failed to keep the one about closing coal fired plants is a broken promise I applaud. To the environuts I would ask where they will go to keep warm if their hovels/abodes/homes have no heat.

WHERE: Along University from Queen Street to Queen's Park

WHAT: Ontario Clean Air Alliance's Santa parade delivers a stockingful of coal to Premier Dalton McGuinty.

WHEN: Tuesday, December 19, 10:30 am

When Santa says he wants a green Christmas, he doesn't mean a snow-free one brought on by climate change. Indeed, Mr. Claus and his brigade of 20 elves marched to Queen's Park to give Dalton McGuinty two lumps of coal, declaring the premier a "very bad boy" for breaking his promise to shut down dirty coal-burning plants by 2009. "Up at the North Pole, we've had so much flooding that we can't get our work done in the toy factory,'' announces Ontario Clean Air Alliance's Brendan McMurtry-Howlett in his Santa suit.

"We're hoping for new leadership to phase out the coal plants for a second and final time," says OCAA chair Jack Gibbons , who notes that coal emissions kill 668 people a year.

Toronto-Danforth MPP Peter Tabuns , who earlier in the day tried to spark some Kyoto movement from the Libs by introducing the Ontario Greenhouse Gas Reduction Act, says, "This government doesn't have efficiency and conservation at the core of its energy strategy.''

While McGuinty won't come out to personally greet Mr. Claus, he later responds in the legislature that the province can't "compromise the reliability of our electricity system. We are the only government in North America shunning new coal-fired generation.''

Specific commitment? Call it more of a slippery slope.
