Sending Spies Into A Mosque?

Why do I feel uneasy about that? Possibly because I don't remember making the JDL an arm of the government who are required to obtain judicial approval for an invasion of privacy.

Jewish group protests imam
Muslim leader Zafar Bangash 'dangerous'

NEWMARKET -- A Jewish group is considering sending people into a Newmarket mosque for services to investigate the involvement of controversial Richmond Hill imam Zafar Bangash.

Meir Weinstein, Jewish Defence League Canada national director, said his group will keep a close eye on the mosque if the facility's executive does not condemn the views of Bangash, the president of the Islamic Society of York Region, which has the Newmarket mosque under its umbrella.

"We will continue to apply pressure and continue to monitor in the best way we can with investigators and police agencies," said Weinstein, one of 10 people at a protest opposing Bangash's link with the recently approved mosque yesterday outside Newmarket's municipal offices.

RAISED EYEBROWS

Asked if that means asking supporters of the group to attend services, Weinstein said, "More than likely."

Bangash has raised eyebrows with statements criticizing American foreign policy and the leadership of Israel.

While Bangash is not the imam of the Newmarket mosque, the building is registered with his group so it can take donations while awaiting certification as a charity.

"(Bangash) has nothing to do over here," taxi driver Raja Murtaza said outside the mosque yesterday.

"He never comes over here. We had to go under some umbrella to get the charity (distinction)."

Murtaza said the mosque is strictly for praying and no political views are voiced during services.

But Weinstein still wants Bangash, whom he describes as "dangerous," out of the equation.

Attempts by the Sun to reach Bangash failed.

it is only natural that people will investigate people who support terrorism and live, under our umbrella (Canada).

people like zafar bangash, etc., should not even be in MY country. Go back to your country where it is legal, and hip, to hate Jews.

Bangash, et al push the envelope when it comes to freedom of expression but so do many of us and as long as our "words" don't cause people to commit criminal acts it is something that we must grin and bear. It is up to the moderates, in any community, to monitor the actions of the community and when necessary report sedition to the proper authories.
