Another New Tax By Member Of Politburo

The city of Toronto's garbage guru loves the province's voluntary plan to cut down on plastic bags. But he still wants to introduce a city tax on the bags later this year.

And he's not stopping there.

Glenn De Baeremaeker, who has been meeting with fast food companies, says the city should slap a 25- or 30-cent tax on any takeout coffee cups and containers not made out of recyclable material. He also wants to look into a deposit system for batteries, perhaps 10 cents a unit, to encourage people to recycle them.

"We're working with people like Tim Hortons to say, `You're not in the blue box program yet – you have to come into the system,'" he said in an interview with the Star.

"Tim Hortons wants to be good citizens. They're voluntarily coming here and saying, `We want to recycle; we don't want our cups to be in the garbage or into your local parks or into your local streams.' I would hope by the end of this year we'll have a major initiative."

I lean to the right but I still have a heart and if I have a mission it is to respond to attacks on people not available to protect themselves and to point out the hypocrisy of the left at every opportunity.MY MAJOR GOAL IS HIGHLIGHT THE HYPOCRISY AND STUPIDITY OF THE LEFTISTS ON TORONTO CITY COUNCIL. Last word: In the final analysis this blog is a relief valve for my rants/raves.
