If you want to dine without the hassle of comfortable surroundings, attentive servers, large selection and in an environment that has been inspected by the health department then you have to put Toronto at the top of your destination list.

Coun. John Filion sounded so full of himself as he pitched the latest incarnation of the Toronto Street Food pilot project -- a.k.a. the socialist food vending carts -- to council last week.
The health board chairman told his colleagues -- at least the bare 28 who managed to be in their council seats -- that the 15 carts proposed for this summer and laden with ethnically diverse and healthy foods will "increase tourism" and be a way to "really brand Toronto" as the place to come "for a fabulous food experience."
The carts, to be located in city-determined parks and public squares, will encourage the use of local produce and introduce nutritious non-Americanized food in low-income areas (yet to be defined). Not only that, they can sell the concept -- to be called Toronto a la Cart -- in New York's Times Square, he said.
