Re:Ubisoft to open Toronto studio, July 7
Premier Dalton McGuinty approved a $263 million grant to Ubisoft to open a studio that will allegedly create 800 jobs over a 10-year period in the video game industry. While Premier McGuinty was short on details (particularly given the massive size of this "investment"), anyone with a calculator will tell you that we've just paid $328,750 per job, very few of which are apt to last the full 10 years.
While that figure alone is offensive, I bet Premier McGuinty the price of one job that 10 years hence no one in government will present an accounting to the public to demonstrate whether this was a good deal for the taxpayer. Certainly Premier McGuinty won't be around to account for it.
Someone should call a cop: the taxpayer has just been robbed . . . again.

One has tanked for a period, the other, is booming huge.
Hey. You know what's interesting. I read today about Ubisoft.
I'm glad of one thing. The younger generation, who knows about these sorts of industries, are making the decisions, and not some old bastard who thinks games are the coleco games he complained to the kids would "burn in the tv" about.
Interestingly enough, even the young gamers on all the gamer sites, know all about Ubisoft's incredible success.
And you may want to recheck those numbers on revenue. They speak in terms of BILLIONS.
