The Ontario Power Authority is paying pre-approved stakeholders $1,500 a day to participate in its consultations on a new Integrated Power System Plan.
Tim Taylor, a spokesman for the OPA, said the consultation costs are included in a $350,000 budget for the plan.
Interested groups were invited to apply for the participant funding.
Taylor said approved participants are paid a flat rate of $750 for less than four hours of work a day and a flat rate of $1,500 for more than four hours a day.
Anyone who has to travel more than 100 kilometres to take part in the consultations is compensated for their travel and accommodation costs.
WORLD WILDLIFE FUND
There are 28 funded participant groups, including the World Wildlife Fund Canada, Pembina Institute, Federation of Ontario Cottagers' Association, Association of Major Power Consumers in Ontario, Energy Probe Research Foundation, Pollution Probe, Power Workers' Union and Wunnumin Lake First Nation.
The OPA has been tasked with developing a plan to ensure a sustainable electricity system.
A Sustainability, Supply, Transmission and Integration Workshop is scheduled for next Wednesday to Friday at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.

I found this very interest article on how Energy Probe worked with the Harris government in Ontario to try to privatize the whole electricity system.
