DISCLAIMER: The following comments are a generalization and the failures that resulted are minimal in comparison to the successes.
Personally I feel many of the problems today stem from the delegation of parental responsibilities to teachers, television and the Baskin Robbins approach, what ever is fashionable at the momement in time. People were out trying to get the bigger house, the second car, the exotic vacation, etc. which resulted in larger debt which resulted in a second income becoming mandatory which meant parents were not parents by slaves and they lost control.
