Why B.C. But Not Ontario

Was BC not a victim, along with the other provinces, of the liberals burn and slash program when it came to transfer payments back in the glory days of Paul Martin as the Liberal finance minister. If they were why is the financial picture so rosy while McGinty is crying poverty? It would appear a Liberal is not necessary a Liberal!

The B.C. government’s opened up its coffers today promising taxpayers $1.5 billion in tax cuts over three years and another $375 million to improve housing options for first-time homeowners, the poor, pensioners as well as building more emergency shelters beds for the province burgeoning homeless population.
“Budget 2007 is a major step towards ensuring that every British Columbian has access to a safe, appropriate and affordable place to call home,” said Finance Minister Carole Taylor in her budget speech, the fourth balanced budget in a row.
“We are not aware of any other place where this kind of holistic approach is being taken with housing,” she added.
The government also set aside an initial $103 million over four years for its evolving green strategy to fight global warming.
Details of the climate-action plan, which will closely follow California’s anti-greenhouse gas strategy, will be set out in more detail in the weeks ahead, when the governnment’s new “energy plan” will be unveiled. That will involve major shifts in tax policy and hundreds of millions of dollars in spending being re-directed to fight climate change.
