Police are hunting for a 14-year-old boy, wanted in the shooting of Kemar Long-Thompson who was killed in the city's far east end Sunday while attending a birthday party for his 16-year-old cousin.
In a move reserved for the most serious of crimes, homicide officers were granted judicial authorization to identify Jason "Yoshi" Beharry for five days in order to seek help from the public, Det. Graham Gibson said at a press conference at police headquarters this afternoon.
"To Jason Beharry, the Toronto Police Service urges you to turn yourself in," said Gibson.
Beharry should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached, the homicide detective said.
Anyone who sees Beharry should call 911.
Police believe he was in Toronto up until yesterday morning and is likely still in the Greater Toronto Area.
"It concerns me that a person of this young age is running around armed with a firearm," Gibson said.
Long-Thompson was at his cousin's 16th birthday party on Scarborough Heights Blvd. in the Kingston and McCowan Rds. area on Saturday night when gunfire erupted. Two others were injured; an 18-year-old was treated and released from hospital while a 28-year-old relative of the birthday girl remains in critical condition.
Police believe Beharry had been at the party for a couple of hours and fired a gun in the basement when asked by adult family members to leave around midnight.
Two other suspects are also being sought, but police do not know their identities.
