It mirrors the apparent lack of interest, unless you are a social in-activist with your hand outstretched, in real street violence. Our "leaders" seem to be too busy saving their jobs that they don't have time to do their jobs.
Toronto is distinctly pacifist, at least when it comes to Street Wars. And that reflects well on this city. Organizers of the internationally popular water-pistol assassination game have had to cancel a three-week tournament that was to have started on Monday.
The reason? Lack of interest.
Unlike other cities, such as London, England, where hundreds of people signed up, Torontonians stayed away in droves. Given the deadly toll of gun violence in this city, that reserved attitude is entirely appropriate. Shooting someone, even in fun, is no laughing matter.
Street Wars organizers are undeterred and are planning new battles in cities across North America. Hopefully, they will remember this month's firm rejection and stay away from Toronto.
