The Stephen Harper wafer caper that topped Canadian news last week bred many questions: Did the Prime Minister know he was insulting (some) Catholics when he didn't immediately (or maybe never) eat the body of Christ? And why wasn't the priest in charge of administering the rite aware that Harper is a Protestant, and so would not have been familiar -- or even comfortable -- with Catholic Communion protocol?
There's one question, however, that no one has asked, which is surprising because you'd think the answer to it would end this whole kerfuffle. It's the question emblazoned on bumper stickers across this great land:What would Jesus do?
I suppose a great many Catholics must think that He's downright angry at Harper -- after all, according to them, the PM pocketed Jesus's actual flesh. But there is another group of Christians who would argue that Jesus probably wouldn't be making a big stink were he around right now. Reverend Scotty McLennan would likely fall in the latter category.
